Happy New Year to everyone! If you’ve stuck with us on the B2Y plan, you will now have read all of the New Testament and Psalms, and around half of the Old Testament. Praise God for helping you achieve this!
As we move into the new year, I’d love to know how I can encourage you to continue with your reading. Please do give me your thoughts.
For me personally, it’s not always been easy. I’ve been dealing with the fact that God’s word remains the same (because he is steadfast) and yet I am a grade ‘A’ wobbler. God wants me to look to Him constantly, to centre my life around him, but I often veer away, sometimes for days or even weeks at a time. Focussing on myself, seeing the world according to how it affects ME, that is contrary to God’s remedy for the human condition. We tie ourselves in knots so quickly!
The good thing about being resolved to do daily bible readings (for me) is that it acts like a spiritual thermometer. If I’ve not been reading my bible, the chances are my focus has been slipping from God and onto myself. Bible reading does not equate to a changed heart, but its one of the incredibly valuable tools God uses to transform us.
Community is also the environment in which God works out our transformation. I’m grateful for the encouragement that I’ve had from a number of B2Y’ers, and especially from the people who have contributed introductions to the blog. I hope that we can work hard at working together in the coming year: support and encourage, rebuke, instruct, train in righteousness.
May God bless us, his Spirit guide us and Christ’s gospel empower us as we seek his glory in 2011!
